Many already know Georgia’s impressive achievements, but her story deserves a closer look. With more than two decades in the maritime industry, Georgia’s path began far from the docks-amid the early innovation of Silicon Valley. Born and raised in California, her Greek-American heritage inspired her to move to Greece in her early 20s, where a chance opportunity introduced her to shipping.
At Aegean Marine Petroleum (ANW), she built a 16-year career, helping establish key operations in Piraeus and New York before joining Bunker One. Her leadership journey reflects resilience, openness, and a deep passion for global trade.
“I didn’t plan to work in shipping,” Georgia shares. “But when I saw how essential it is-moving 90% of the world’s goods - I was fascinated. Once I understood its impact on economies and communities, I knew I had found my calling.”
Throughout her career, Georgia has overcome challenges in an industry traditionally dominated by men. From insisting on boarding barges early in her career to better understand operations, to navigating complex markets, she’s demonstrated that persistence and curiosity can break barriers.
“I’ve always focused on my skills, expertise, and the value I bring. Representation matters, but excellence is what truly opens doors.”
Today, Georgia leads by example-encouraging others to build strong networks, seek mentors, and stay adaptable in an ever-changing industry.
“Fasten your seatbelt,” she laughs. “Shipping is fast-paced and competitive. No two days are ever the same-but that’s what makes it so rewarding.”
Her story is a reminder that leadership isn’t about fitting a mold-it’s about embracing opportunity, learning continuously, and inspiring others to do the same.
