Bunker One assumes title sponsorship of two world championships

The summer around Bunker One headquarters in Middelfart, Denmark, will be somewhat more international than usual this year, as more than 400 sailors from all over the world come together for not just one but two world championships: The Melges24 and Women's Matchrace.

Organizing the world championships is the experienced local sailing company GoSail orchestrating the practical details with the primary sponsorship of Bunker One backing the entire event.

"It's not every day that Middelfart can attract world championships. And in addition to that two maritime ones, which at the same time support our desire for more women to get involved in maritime business, it was quite obvious that we should support those WC's," says Peter Zachariassen, CEO of Bunker One.

The two world championships are independent but take place in consecutive order from June 27th to July 7th around Lillebælt and Fænøsund off Middelfart. The women's match race will take place just meters from the pier at the marina, allowing spectators to look directly down into the boats and hear the crews communicating as they try to outmanoeuvre the opposition.

Bunker One wants more maritime attention Bunker One is proud to sponsor these events and hopes that the mix of audience, friendliness and accessibility can help put both Middelfart, women and sailing in the consciousness of more people.

"We are excited that Middelfart can attract competition at the highest level. We, as a company, are based in Middelfart and are quite proud of it. Therefore these world championships are a fantastic opportunity to highlight our hometown of which we are so proud, and at the same time support an excellent cause," says Peter Zachariassen and adds:

"The combination of women and sailing is also grist to our mill. The shipping industry faces diversity and recruitment challenges, and here is an excellent opportunity right in our backyard to get more women interested in the maritime industry. Competitions like this World Cup help to focus on the fact that we, both in Denmark and worldwide, have female stars who can inspire others," says Peter Zachariassen.

The world championships are held from Middelfart Marina, where the competition for Melges 24 takes place between June 27th and July 1st, while the WC in the Women's Matchrace takes place from July 4th to July 7th 2023. Everyone is invited and welocom to spectate the events, as the entrance is free.
