EUA prices have moved above EUR 85 per tonne as compliance buying becomes increasingly visible in the market.
With the 30 September EUA surrender deadline approaching, timing matters.
Miss the surrender deadline and the penalty is EUR 100 per missing EUA. The missing EUAs still have to be surrendered afterwards.
The fine does not replace the EUA obligation.
Don’t leave the purchase until the last minute
The practical cut-off comes earlier than the deadline.
Transfers through the Union Registry can take 48+ hours, and EUAs are normally released after payment has been received. With banking days included, purchases may need to be completed several business days in advance.
For larger fleets, timing also matters financially. A full compliance year can represent several million euros in EUAs. Spreading purchases or fixing part of the position earlier can reduce exposure to EUA price fluctuations and the risk of a last-minute transfer failing to settle.
EUAs alongside your physical bunkers
Bunker One supplies EUAs alongside physical bunkers.
This means you can discuss your EUA position with a team that already understands your fleet and bunker requirements.
Bunker One can align EUA purchases with your bunker requirements to optimise cash flow and better manage EUA price fluctuations.
If you are unsure whether your 2025 position is fully covered, check now rather than in the final week.
